Online work:

  • I edit cpj.org, the website of the Committee to Protect Journalists. I oversaw creation of the site in 2008, along with the launch of the CPJ Blog, a popular forum for press issues.

  • In April 2012, we published the CPJ Journalist Security Guide, an interactive manual for journalists working in dangerous conditions worldwide. The guide is available online and in iBook, eReader, and other downloadable formats.

  • Our database of journalists killed on duty is the most comprehensive archive of journalist deaths in the world. I oversaw the project, which we launched in 2009.

Print work:

  • I edit Attacks on the Press, an annual analysis of press freedom conditions in more than 100 countries. Published by John Wiley, the 325-page book is the most authoritative of its kind in the world.

  • I also edit regular investigative reports on press freedom problems worldwide. In November 2012, we published Turkey’s Press Freedom Crisis, which documented the Turkish government’s large-scale use of imprisonment to silence Kurdish and independent journalists.

  • Responding to a murderous wave of violence, we published Silence or Death in Mexico’s Press, a 2010 examination of the devastating effects of crime and corruption on the Mexican press. The report led to passage of a constitional amendment to combat anti-press crime.

  • In 2009, we published Anatomy of Injustice, an investigation into the unsolved murders of 17 Russian journalists. Our report led Russian investigators to reopen several cases.

  • From 2004 through 2008, I edited CPJ’s magazine, Dangerous Assignments. The magazine carried in-depth pieces from staff and freelance contributors.
