Our new Impunity Index identifies the most murderous countries in the world for journalists. My colleagues Dana Chivvis and John Emerson produced this video highlighting the nations where authorities are failing and free expression is suffering.

Our new edition of Attacks on the Press comes at a timely moment, with unrest reverberating throughout the Middle East. We chart the supression of the news media there and throughout the world. The 400-page book is available through the Brookings Institution Press.
